Long time gone...

So, not a lot of new things made lately, still waiting to make my Cheese cake, not sure why I haven't other than not having a spring-pan, and just haven't had time. LOL

I'll update better late.

Happy Easter...

OK, so I said that I thought that I did OK with the Oatmeal Raisin cookies, well I must have, I just got an "Order" from the family that I'm to make two batches, approx. 6-8 dozen, cookies for Easter on Sunday.

I asked if I should make two different batches, one Oatmeal Raisin, one Peanut butter kiss, or one Chocolate chip, but NOooo :) They just want Oatmeal Raisin, seem to think the Chocolate Chip are more a fall/winter type cookie and these are nice and light and refreshing for spring.

With that said I do recommend that you follow the receipt that I had in my last post and try them for yourself, just make sure you use REAL vanilla, not imitation!!

Happy Cooking!

Cookie!

Ok, so more and more of my posts are about food, what can you expect from a big boy like me.

Anyway, this week I made Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. It was my first attempt, but I think I did ok with them, everyone else said they were good, so I'll take their word for it.

Anyway, here's the recipe if you want it: Oatmeal Cookies

The one thing that I will say with any of my cooking I ONLY use Pure Vanilla Extract. Not imitation vanilla. I'll go look and let you know which brand I use later!

Happy Cooking!!

A Passion of Mine...

...is cooking. This week I made a Tres Leches Cake. Jenji and I had this in the Domincan and really enjoyed it, so this was my first try. Today was Benito Juarez birthday, and it's a holiday that some of us at the office celebrate every year, but I digress. This cake took 2 days to make! Yes, 2 days for a cake. So Wednesday night I made the cake, not too hard, very "unique" to create, and then Thursday evening I did the icing and iced both cakes. Everything was done from scratch, the way I like to do things in my kitchen, and it was a really good experience. Ok, so normally this would be the end of the story, the cake went to work, it was eaten, I brought home the cake pan, BUT this made me really happy today. As you can tell from the name, this is a hispanic cake, and we have a few people at the office that are hispanic. One of the hispanic women at the office actually tracked me down outside and asked if I made the cake, I told her yes and she actually RAVED over the cake, it made me feel so good, she is not a US born hispanic citizen, she is quite new to the states. She actually asked if I wanted her to go get the cake pan for me, I told her it wasn't necessary, but she said there was just 1 piece left and she would bring the pan down to me, so she wanted to get the last piece. Anyway, she brought the washed and cleaned pan down to my office, and told me that in her family whoever ate the last thing in a dish had to wash the dish, so I had a clean pan and a warm heart from a woman at the office that gave me a compliment that she didn't know how much it made me feel good.

Anyway, here's the recipe, it's Alton Brown's and when you make it you MUST weigh the sugar and flour, and you MUST use cake flour. This makes the cake.

Random thoughts...

...ok, so they are random, but they are also organized, at least in my messy mind they are.

So sometimes you read something and think it's about you, and you may or may not be right, but regardless the comments that you make about the things that you read should be private, not out for the public to read...Not that you don't feel the same way as when you posted the comments first time, but that you want to NOT start online "conversations" that could have a potential to be things that should not be aired in public.

So I guess I'm saying, you can feel things, you can express things, but a bit of restraint can go a LONG way in keeping from putting people in situations that they should not have to be in, because it isn't fair to put them there.

One other random thought...I love my family, regardless of if we are "getting along" right now, I love them. I have 2 parents, 1 father, 1 mother, I have 1 sister, this is something that can never, nor would I want it to ever change. Do I have more family than this, yes, I have a large extended family on both of my parents' sides, but I also have the family that I have married into. Do I love them more than the rest of my family? NO, do I love them less than the rest of my family? NO...so I guess what I'm saying is I love ALL of my family, but there is a big difference between Love and agreeing with...

Like I said, random thoughts...

Punk Arses...

OK, so our "Network Admin" whom I as the supervisor of Network Engineering have no power over, has decided to block some of the "social" websites from the office. Facebook, Myspace, etc are now fully blocked, heck I even programmed my way around them with my domain, did that help, for a few hours. So what do I do, bow to the man? Nah, I'll find another way around, people are using iPhones, Blackberrys, etc to get to it, I guess I'll have to update my status w/ my blackberry and fight the man another day, just don't have time for him today...

Oh yeah, Twitter still works, so I'm just updating my status there and letting it hit Facebook...LOL
